You may or may not be aware of the problems that Boone Hall Plantation has been having with dumping, encroachment, trespassing, and vandalism. Boone Hall Plantation met with several members of your board of directors and residents directly impacted back in 2017, and indicated that they felt that some of the perpetrators were gaining access through the property boundary between Brickyard Plantation and Boone Hall Plantation. Boone Hall Plantation has now erected a chain link fence along this common boundary.
I offered to meet again with Boone Hall Plantation, but based upon their experience at our 2017 meeting, they declined. At this previous meeting, I requested that if they installed a fence, they consider painting it such that it would be less visually intrusive. Their response was the letter and pictures that you can access below.
Boone Hall Plantation requested that the HOA specify an acceptable color for the fence. I have requested that Boone Hall Plantation specify the type of paint (oil, latex, enamel, or acrylic), color (I suggested black), sheen (flat, satin, or gloss), and even the brand acceptable to them so that the appearance will be uniform from neighbor to neighbor.
If neighbors would like to meet with the board of directors concerning this issue, please feel free to contact Victoria and we will arrange a community meeting. I recognize this is not the final outcome that most would have desired.
Update April 27, 2019
Stephen Wright, President, Board Of Directors
I wanted to update you on discussions Victoria Austin, Jack Folley, and I had with Boone Hall Plantation at an impromptu meeting on Tuesday, April 23rd at our clubhouse. I attended by phone with a moments notice. Later that evening, the Brickyard Board of Directors discussed the outcome of that meeting. Boone Hall Plantation's position:
They have requested Brickyard residents to stop reaching out to them regarding the fence.
They will not consider different fencing other than what they have already purchased. They stated that a black fence was their offer at a meeting two years ago, which residents in attendance said was unacceptable, and it's too late now.
They will only allow the fence to be painted if it is painted uniformly and in its entirety. This means they will not allow individual residents to paint the fence. They would allow a contractor hired by the Brickyard Property Owners Association access to paint the fence.
They will not allow residents to do anything to their fence (attach things to it, cause vines to grow on it, etc.)
The Brickyard POA discussed the fence at the meeting that evening. The POA is not in support of using Brickyard funds for the fence painting project. As before, if any residents want to meet with the Brickyard Plantation Board of Directors, please contact Victoria Austin at 843-452-3882 and we will schedule a meeting.
I know some residents will find the number of emails being sent concerning this fence to be excessive. Therefore, if you would like to continue to receive emails concerning the fence, please send me an email at the address found on the board of directors page of this site stating such and I will include you on a limited distribution.
